AURA

Atmospheric Utility & Reporting Automaton

The fleet's weather station. AURA knows what it's like outside, what it's like in every room a robot is in, and plots one against the other.

Overview

Inside, outside, and the graph

Outside

The weather where you are

From Open-Meteo: open source, free, no API key. Temperature, feels-like, humidity, wind, today's high and low and the chance of rain, every 10 minutes.

Here

Her own sensor

An AHT10 on an Arduino over USB, the same sensor and code as MILA's. She finds the Arduino by herself.

Fleet

Every robot's room

MILA, NORA and anyone else who reports temperature and humidity, found through RIFT's fleet list, over WiFi or Bluetooth. Robots can push readings too.

Graph

Inside against outside

Temperature or humidity over 6 hours, 24 hours or 7 days. One reading a minute per source, kept for a week.

Voice

In her own words

“It's 27° and mostly clear outside, a 69% chance of rain today, so take an umbrella, 22° in here.”

Coast

Tides and the sea

She finds the nearest coast herself: high and low tides with a 48-hour chart, sea temperature, waves, swell, the current and a quick read of the surf.

Forecast

Her own rain guess

Open-Meteo's chance, moved by every sensor in the fleet (humidity rising, air near its dew point) and the barometer. The more sensors, the surer she is.

Cities

Look anywhere, save home

A dropdown of cities, starting at your connection's city. Save one as your location; the graph always stays home. Every robot is plotted in its own colour.

Details

Everything Open-Meteo knows

The barometer and its trend, gusts, clouds by height, visibility, dew point, storm energy (CAPE), rain and snow in detail, sunshine and daylight, and the ground: soil temperature, moisture and what the plants need.

Sky

Sun and moon

Sunrise, sunset and UV from Open-Meteo, and the moon's phase worked out on the PC: how lit it is, and the days to the next full moon.

Stories

Obsessed with the weather

NINA's little storyteller (TinyStories, 15M parameters, no GPU): she opens every story with the real sky, and it tells the rest.

Brainfuck

“wx?” — “rain”

DREAM asks for the weather in Brainfuck and AURA beeps the sky back in one word, then DREAM says the whole answer. She joins RIFT's conversations too.

Internet

Through the fleet

Everything on the RIFT WiFi shares the hub PC's connection, so she needs no dongle of her own.

Quick start

Arduino, then run.bat

# 1. Flash scripts/aura_sensor/aura_sensor.ino: AHT10 SDA to A4, SCL to A5, VIN to 5V, GND to GND
# 2. Start her (sets up venv the first time)
run.bat

Where she is: Location in config.json (latitude and longitude, or a city). Left empty, she guesses from your network's public address.

API

Ask her, or tell her

RequestAnswer
GET /api/nowOutside, every room, where she is and what she says
GET /api/history?hours=24Every source's readings over time
GET /ask?q=...The weather, a robot's readings, the moon, a story: in words and in Brainfuck
GET /storyA weather story
GET /statusLike any robot's: her temp and hum, and outside's
POST /report{"name": "KIDA01", "temp": 23.1, "hum": 45} from a robot that would rather push

Apps

In a window, and on your phone

Windows

aura.exe

Her page in a native window. Keep it in her builds folder: if she isn't running, it starts run.bat.

Download aura.exe

Android

The AURA app

Her page full screen. FIND gets her address from RIFT's fleet list, or type it in.
